Great location close to public transport and amenities. Authentic vintage decor
Lack of cleanliness and maintenance. Unhelpful and unfriendly staff.

The hostel is very charming due to ddr decoration and very convenient for who have bought the Welcome Berlin Card (which gives unlimited rides on S-Bahn and U-Bahn through Beriln). It is located beside a discount supermarket, what is very helpful when people want to save money by doing cheap meals. The staff were very kind and helpful, and also spoke a perfect english. The room where we stayed was very confortable, spacious and nifty. To top it off, the bathroom was very bright and clean. It is a bargain for the price we paid for the room.
For people who want to avoid using the public transportation, its location, which is very far from downtown, make unpractical to reach the main tourist attractions and museums by walking. The breakfast is not included in the room fares, and must be paid apart (€ 7,50 per person per day). You can have a nice breakfast at the Ostbahnhof by less than € 4,00 per person.

Clean and comfortable in general. It is convenient that the hostel is next to the Ostbahnhof and a supermarket.
There is no elevator in the hostel. In addition, it is a little inconvenient that the bathroom is outside our room (comfortable room).

Conveniently located near Berlin Ostbahnhof station, with easy access to S-Bahn and regional connections. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Clean rooms with a nostalgic 70s-style decor. Quirky details like clocks showing different time zones and portraits adding to the retro atmosphere. Comfortable and cozy, perfect for those seeking a unique experience.

Paid a little bit more than a run of the mill hostel for the retro design - worth it. Rooms and reception very funky. Extremely close to Ostbanhof so great for getting anywhere in the city.
6 floors and no lift, nightmare with luggage but expected.

I recently stayed at Ostel - Das Ddr in Berlin for a few nights. The location was fantastic, with easy access to public transit and lively areas to explore nearby. The spacious room had big windows that let in plenty of light and air, and I loved listening to the retro radio while relaxing on the couch. The water pressure in the shower was great, and the staff were laid-back and accommodating. The DDR atmosphere was a unique experience, and having a grocery store, bakery, and train station nearby was convenient. a safe and interesting spot to stay.
Totally recommend this hotel.

It was an original hotel with decoration from the DDR. It was quiet and clean, and the people friendly. The location was excellent, next to a train station.
We had to pay in cash as they did not accept credit cards. There were also a couple of things that could be better. One that we were in a 6th floor without elevator that for us was not really a problem till I had a problem with my feed.... The other problem was that our room had a shared bathroom, and there was a single bathroom for four rooms, so sometimes it was very busy and we had to wait to have a shower or go to the toilet.

Friendly, clean, cheap, cotton sheets, laid back.
Only one small towel. They could only accept cash because their machine was broken. If you are a light sleeper the sounds of returning revellers on a Saturday night/early Sunday morning will disturb you.

The hostel was very basic but very clean. It had amazing decor 70s style wallpaper , furniture, radio and lighting. Excellent position right next to train station that had trains running every 5 mins into centre which was 2 stops away and took about 5 mins .I loved it . Would def return there!
